2010 Yu-Gi-Oh! National Championship
Gameplayer hosted the 2010 Yu-Gi-Oh! National Championship over Queen’s Birthday Weekend at the magnificent Ellerslie Events Centre, overlooking the gardens of the Auckland Racing Club. The 2010 Yu-Gi-Oh! National Championship was the largest official National Championship in the history of New Zealand trading games, dating back to 1995. Exactly 150 players participated to be crowned the Champion of New Zealand and win the return flight and accommodation to Long Beach California, to represent New Zealand at the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship.
Previous National Championship finalist, Brook Haami continued his dominating string of performances by posting the only undefeated record to decide the 8 finalists. Brook made it all the way to the best of 3 championship match, winning game one and requiring only 1 further win from the remaining 2 games to be crowned in historic undefeated fashion. Standing in his way was Christchurch’s Kevin Lau, repeating his finals showing from 2008 when he was just 14! In a thunderous game two and three Lau swept the favourite Haami to claim the title of 2010 New Zealand National Champion!
The next major event in the Yu-Gi-Oh! calendar is the 2010 Gameplayer Championship, which will be held over Labour weekend, at the Parnell Conference Centre, Auckland.
